The American Red Cross performed a national survey and found that nearly 8 in 10 households (78 percent) will participate in at least one water-related recreational activity this summer; however, 37% of adults described their swimming skills as lacking or nonexistent.
Earlier this summer we did a blog on the importance of water safety (please see our piece on swimming safe this summer for more information) at the time of that post there was alarm in our community because two brothers drowned in a neighbor’s pool. Luckily, there was someone nearby who knew how to swim and rescued them. WLWT reported on it and interviewed members of our lifeguard training program.
The Cincinnati Red Cross offers classes from basic swimming to certified lifeguard training, CPR/first-aid, and many more. We encourage everyone to get trained, be empowered, and be prepared.
