Hurricane Matthew 2016

October 11, 2016. Pembroke, North Carolina. The Lumber River overflowed its banks during Hurricane Matthew, and flooded the towns of Lumberton and Pembroke, as well as the I-95 corridor between them, stranding many motorists, and stopping travel for days. Homes, businesses, schools and churches have been inundated with water. The community has been unable to get back on its feet as the river continues to crest and waters are rising further. Many residents are unable to return to their flooded homes, where the water has made roads passable only by boat. Photo by Daniel Cima for the American Red Cross
