Hurricane Matthew 2016

Wednesday October 12, 2016 Spring Lake, North Carolina (Red Cross Shelter at Spring Lake Parks and Recreation Building)
Tara Davis, from Lillington, NC, was outside her home on Saturday as the winds from Hurricane Matthew came through. “I looked at my husband, and said, ‘that power pole is going to fall.’ The pole fell and ripped out the plumbing under the house. My brother came and helped us get our animals out.” Ms. Davis has 4 dogs and 2 cats that are staying at the Cumberland Animal Shelter while Ms. Davis is out of her home. Ms. Davis said, “The Red Cross has helped me tremendously. When I came in Sunday after staying up all night, they knew I was exhausted. They offered us food, and have been very welcoming.” Ms. Davis’s husband and father are also at the shelter, and her father was able to go to the hospital to undergo previously scheduled eye surgery today, while the family is safely staying at the shelter.
